What are Animal Assisted Activities (AAA)?
It's not just for dogs anymore...see other animals used in therapy...Click here

Animal Assisted Activities (AAA) provide opportunities for motivational, educational, and/or recreational benefits to enhance quality of flife. AAA are delivered in a variety of environments by a specifically trained professional, paraprofessional, and/or volunteer, in association with aniamls that meet specific criteria.

The key features of AAA are:

  • Specific treatment goals are not planned for each visit.
  • Volunteers and treatment providers are not required to take detailed notes or record results ofa visit.
  • Visit content is spontaneous and may last only a few minutes.

Examples of AAA:

Group activities with 1-2 animals present. A facility staff member over sees the activities, which usually include "meet and greet" activities, simple games, and discussions about animals. There are no specific treatment goals outlined for the people involved. No documentation of progress is detailed.
